Climbing Goatfell on the Isle of Arran

After cycling around the beautiful island of Arran a couple of times in the past, Jim, Thomas, Kath and I decided to climb Arran's highest peak, Goatfell. Standing at 2,866 feet, it almost, but not quite makes Munro staus but we thought it would be worth a climb anyway.

It is probably one of the nicest climbs that I have done and was not too challenging for us. Initially it was only the ferry port at Brodick that we could see as we ascended the hill but the farther up we climbed, the more of the island we could see. The scenery is beautiful.

A couple of hours later we were at the summit, as were many other walkers and we relaxed and had lunch in the late afternoon sunshine.

We made our way back down and found a nice wee pub where we sat outside and drank what was the nicest few pints of ice cold Kronenburg that I can ever remember tasting.

By 7.00 we were in the bar on the ferry for the 50 minute journey back to Ardrossan and then onto the train back home with the obligitary carry-out, sore, sunburnt and sozzled!
